Over the years I have learned what good the YMCA and YWCA do for the community and so I wanted to give the YWCA a mention on my blog today…..the Y is seeking nominations for its 8th annual Amy K. Stubbs Women of  Achievement Awards.  Organizations, businesses, faith centers, community groups, individuals and family members are invited to nominate extraordinary women  you know for either award.  Applications are available at www.ywcagreenville.org  or by calling 373-6300 for more information.  Thanks for your support and taking the time to nominate someone special…Lee

I can’t remember if I have already blogged about this but its worth repeating…..the organization Cell Phones for Soldiers is collecting cash donations and old cell phones.  The phones are re-cycled for cash and the proceeds are used to buy pre-paid calling cards for our soldiers serving in the  Middle East.  The goal is to provide every U.S. soldier with a way to call home for free.  If you’d like to help, just log onto www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com …thanks of your help……Lee

I know what you’re thinking….you work hard and you deserve a raise.  Unfortunately, you aren’t alone.  And while some companies are doing a bit better, they aren’t exactly throwing money around.  So start a more forward thinking discussion with your boss by mentioning a common goal you have and say something like….”I’m willing to make a long term commitment to help this company grow to new levels of success.”  Your boss probably views younger employees as job hoppers, so saying this along with your hard work will hopefully score you a raise or at least a spot on the short list for a promotion.  Good luck….Lee

Every time you open up the newspaper or a site on the web there is a new poll about something in our lives…the lastest poll reveals that wearing glasses ages people by at least three years but are perceived as smarter and good with computers than people who do not wear them.  It only highlights the snap judgments we make  as a society about people when we meet them for the first time.  Would you rather look younger or smarter?…Lee

Last weeks Children’s Hospital Radiothon, I can’t even put into words… I am SO happy and HONORED that I was able to be there, in the lobby of the hospital. You can’t understand the difference that you are making until you experience it first hand. With your help- we raised over $305,000!!!! Do you have any idea how many children will benefit from your generosity?!? You called in, went to the website, we even had people stopping into the hospital to personally deliver their contributions for a better life for these amazing, brave, wonderful children! Tyler Burgess and Brett Myers came in on behalf of Southeastern Retail Decor and Fixtures to bring the children a $7,500 “miracle” donation…it is because of people like Tyler and Brett, and each and every one of you, that these children will have a life with happiness, and health!

THANK YOU AGAIN

The last time I wrote on my blog was on Wednesday when I was leaving to start the first day of our Children’s Hospital Radiothon and here it is Saturday morning and I am still on cloud nine because of what you did to help us reach our goal this year.  How about this….when we tallied everything yesterday afternoon at six o’clock…we had raised 305-thousand dollars for the babies and children at the GHS Children’s Hospital….it was the most successful radiothon to date and I thank you again from the bottom of my heart for your generous contribution to such a worthy endeavor…..Lee

It is Wednesday morning as I write this blog and at 12 noon we begin our 3rd annual Children’s Hospital Radiothon.  We’ll be raising funds for a lot of different things that affect the babies and children at the hospital. Some examples include Play Stations, DVD’s and other learning tools, diapers for preemies and Camp Courage for children with cancer and blood disorders.  I hope I can count on you to be a Miracle Maker during the broadcast which runs through Friday.  Thanks for your support….Lee

My “babie’s” 1st day of school (K3). It went smoothly, except for his little sister being terribly distraught about him not actually coming back home with us after we dropped him off at his class.

He was so excited to play with the blocks and meet new friends. Also, we love his teacher! She’s wonderful:) Michael and I said bye and we love you to him, and he simply replied “Bye”, without even looking up. (He was too busy with all of his friends playing with the farm animals on the reading carpet).
