I found these facts about Halloween that I wanted to share a few of them with you…first , Halloween was brought to North America by immigrants from Europe who would celebrate the harvest around a bonfire, share ghost stories, sing, dance and tell fortunes, Pumpkins also come in white, blue and green.  Great for unique monster carvings, chocolate candy bars top the list as the most popular candy for trick or treaters with Snickers #1 and Halloween is the 2nd most commercially successful holiday, with Christmas being the first.  Have a fun and safe Halloween…..Lee

I know there is nothing I can do about it but robots are taking over everywhere…something you probably already know.  ATM’s are no surprise today, but how about online banking and mobile apps for smartphones?  What can you not do with online banking and an ATM that a teller can do?  Not much.  With the help of mobile apps, you’ll also be able to deposit checks using your cell phone.  It’s as simple as taking a photo of both sides of the signed check, send it to your bank using the app and immediately reap the benefits of the newly deposited funds.  Yet another small win for technology around the world and don’t forget that Magic 98.9 has a new app for your I-phone and I-pad and you can download it free at www.magic989online.com …take us along wherever you go….Lee

This was such an interesting article that I wanted to share it with you especially if you are looking for a job….It was in U.S. News and World Report.  Being conscientious seems to be key by following up with employers.  Also, having positive emotions help job seekers behave more confidently or cope better with stress, thereby responding more skillfully in job interviews.  This is something for you to remember……people can’t change their personalities, but job seekers can change their behaviors and display of emotions.  I hope that is helpful if you’re trying to get back in the job market…..Lee

I’ve got to take a few minutes to tell you about one of my special interests and it involves adopting a family for the holidays.  It is sponsored by the Salvation Army and provides  toys and clothes for under-privileged children .  But they need your help in making this wonderful program happen.  So if you would like to adopt a family..please call Linda Griffin at 235-4803 and she’ll be happy to tell you how it all works.  Hope you’ll be able to give what you can…Lee

As I get to know more and more about the social media each day, since I’m in the communication business, I found this fact to be  interesting.  According to a marketing research company, more than 70 percent of tweets got no reaction from one’s followers.  And it also found that only 6 percent of tweets get retweeted and if that happens, it will almost get done within an hour of it being posted.  It’s a sign of the times to be involved with social media but its all I can do to just keep up with Facebook and e-mail….Lee

There is not too much I enjoy watching on T.V. anymore but I do enjoy TV Land and for some reason the network decided to run Fran’s old show The Nanny for what seems like an eternity.  After all that, I see where Fox is now giving Fran Drescher a chance to do her own daytime TV talk show.  A three week trial run will air on six stations in certain cities starting on Nov. 26th but no date’s been set for an official series debut. The show would revolve around what Fran calls “life lessons.”  Time and ratings will determine if her show will be a mainstay.  Do you think it is a good idea and would you watch?  I would have to see a couple of show before I will commit.   Lee

I was thinking about buying a new laptop but just read a scary story.  If you balance your laptop on your knees while you use it, you can actually toast your skin.  It seems “toasted skin syndrome” was common back in the days when people gathered around the fireplace together.  Now, it’s being seen again in people who use their laptops alot.  It shows up as a blotchy skin discoloration but the report says the condition is harmless, although in rare cases it can cause the kind of skin damage that may lead to skin cancer.  Just another caution to consider when using today’s latest technology not to mention invasion of privacy, or so you think, when using the internet…Lee
